Covid in Wales: What do the stats tell us?
What can different SLOT XO statistics tell us about coronavirus in Wales?
Here, we regularly update some of the key areas of data for measuring the pandemic, covering case rates, Covid patients in hospital, the number of deaths and programmes such as vaccination and testing.
We also try to explain some of the different measures being used.
Case rates can tell us how many people with Covid-19 symptoms are presenting themselves for tests that then come back positive.
Low numbers show vaccinations are having an impact, with far fewer people experiencing symptoms, although the first minister has warned that rising case numbers mean Wales is at the start of a third wave.
Wales has reported 131 new positive tests a day on average in the past seven days, an increase which might be expected as things continue to open up, with clusters in some local areas driving the overall increase.
This compares with 67 cases a day from the seven days commencing 8 June and 2,864 cases a day at the peak in December.
We can see very marked differences in the case rates in Conwy and Denbighshire, due to the clusters, compared with the rest of Wales.
This has driven the overall Wales case rate up to 29 cases per 100,000. |
